Gum disease is rampant in the United States. In fact, this problem affects around 60% of all American adults. Even if you’re cavity-free, gum disease can still cause major issues – not only in your mouth but in other areas of your body as well.
So what can you do about your periodontal health? Brush twice daily, floss, and see us at Towson Dental Group at least every six months. Dr. Chung will check your gums thoroughly during your biannual cleaning and examination. If gum disease is present, we have treatments to help.
A scaling and root planing is a “deep cleaning” for your gums. We go into the gingival pockets beneath your gum to remove plaque and tartar where harmful bacteria thrive. This deep cleaning helps to reduce gum inflammation, clear up symptoms, and resolve periodontal disease.
Gum swelling, bleeding, and tenderness are common symptoms of gum disease. If you are experiencing one or more of these problems, don’t wait for your biannual appointment.
